A survey done by the United States Census Bureau has shown that 59% of Americans reside in the state in which they were born. This varies by state, with 78.8% of people in Louisiana, 76.6% of people in Michigan and 74% of people in Pennsylvania staying in their home state. On the opposite end, under 40% of people born in Alaska, Nevada, and Arizona live there for most of their lives. The most common moves from state to state in 2010 included California to Texas, New York to Florida, Florida to Georgia, and California to Arizona.
