If you want to work as a cab driver in London, then you are going to have to do a lot of work in order to then be permitted to do so. There is more to it than simply jumping behind the wheel and off you go.

Even though there is sat-nav to help you out, a London cab driver still needs to complete something that is known as ‘The Knowledge’ and it is a tall order. They are forced to learn all 25,000 street names, the various landmarks and key points of interest within a 6-mile radius of the heart of London. This is then tested in an oral exam covering multiple points so, they are effectively their very own walking and talking sat-nav.

This can take years for them to complete and quite a high percentage of participants will fail even at the first or second time of taking.
