Imagine working for the Royal Family, what kind of perks would one hope to enjoy and how tough would it be?

It might astound you to know that there are in fact, 199 bedrooms that are on site for palace staff. That sure is a lot of bedrooms. Each bedroom has its own bathroom but is said to be quite modest in style. Currently, the palace is looking for a ‘vase polisher’, which might sound bizarre but considering how many rare vases are on display in the palace it would be even more bizarre to leave this daunting task to regular staff.

Part of the contract when signing on as a royal staff member is of course secrecy, it never does to tell the public about the goings on within the palace walls. Not many have transferred these rules but one particular person Paul Burrell even wrote a book about it which included Princess Diana. The British public were both incensed and intrigued. Paul Burrell was invited onto the Uk´s Big Brother series and upon arriving, the American house-mates treated him like royalty. Which is in itself ironic since he is not one bit royal and also is disliked intensely by the famous monarchy for his inability to keep his lips sealed.

There is currently 1000 staff on hand, and it is said that most staff are very poorly paid, which is quite interesting since they work very long hours. Nonetheless, it is still seen as a prestigious position, all meals are free for those living in and for those not living in lunch is free.

The job of a butler is very coveted, so much so that a company in London has opened offering Butler courses at £7000 a pop. The course which is only 4 weeks long promises one a good chance to get into the palace and take up residence, as staff only, of course. If one is interested the vase polishing job is offering a salary of around £7000.00 per year for a 20-hour week. Not exactly a plum position.
