Epcot was opened in Disney in 1982, as an extension of the successful theme park. When it was first opened, its official name was EPCOT Center. The acronym EPCOT stands for “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”, and it was first created by Walt Disney in 1966. He wanted to create a place that was constantly changing, full of new ideas and places. His goal was for EPCOT to be a place for people to live, work, and play, all in one area. After Walt Disney’s death, the idea of what Epcot would be shifted, with his brother Roy deciding to focus more on creating a new theme park instead of a community. Epcot has since become an attraction, with international pavilions, rides, and restaurants, but many wonder what it would have been if Walt Disney had been the one overseeing the creation.
