We’ve all heard it before… you’re going to get food poisoning if you eat raw eggs or undercooked meat. But most consumers tend to ignore the rule, and new research has shown that they may be right. If a person eats two eggs per meal, twice a week, for their entire lives, they still only have a 1 in 625 chance of eating an egg with salmonella. The USA and FDA mandate recalls for any outbreaks that occur, often causing panic amongst locals wherever the recall is located. However, most consumers have taken an “if it happens, it happens” attitude about food poisonings. The easiest way to avoid food poisoning like E. coli? Common sense. Use a meat thermometer, don’t eat undercooked meat, and don’t worry too much. Even if you eat two hundred burgers each year, the odds are only 1:50 of you having an E. coli infection in your lifetime.
