Before it was an Oscar and Golden Globe winner, Good Will Hunting was a script for a modest-budget film written by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The two had sent the script to numerous studios, several of which had made them offers. Studios were jumping at the chance to have Matt Damon and Ben Affleck in one of their movies. They ultimately decided to go with Miramax, under the direction of Harvey Weinstein. Their reason? While many made offers, Harvey Weinstein picked up on something that no other producer did. He said he loved the script but had one question: Why was there a sex scene between the two leads—who were both straight men with no romantic feelings for one another—on page 60 of the script? Affleck and Damon shared that they had written this absurd, far-fetched scene to see if the producers they were sending the scripts to actually took the time to read their script. Harvey Weinstein was the only one who mentioned it, so his company was the one that got to produce the movie.
