When it comes to fictional detectives, it would be difficult to find one that has had as big an impact as Sherlock Holmes. In fact, it seems that his ability to capture the imagination of the public has been taken to a whole new level, according to a survey from the United Kingdom in 2008.

In the survey, teenagers in the country were quizzed on a series of famous figures, some real and others fictional. Rather surprisingly, 58% of teenagers that were quizzed actually believed that Sherlock Holmes was a real individual, and just to make matters worse, a rather staggering 20% thought that Winston Churchill was fake.

When you see stats such as that, it does make you wonder about some people, especially when you consider the famous figures that were involved.
