Pope John Paul II was famous for not only being the Pope, which is a good claim to fame, but also the fact that he was a goalkeeper for a soccer team before he became a priest. However, perhaps sport was kind of in his blood, a theory which is backed up by an event that happened in the year 2000.

It was in that year that Pope John Paul II was named an honorary Harlem Globetrotter. Now, he clearly had no intention of playing or anything of the sort, but it seems that he was still more than happy to accept the award as it is surely the dream of so many people around the world to be on that team?

You have to admit, it would have been pretty cool if he had appeared for them.
