An Accent No More

Born in London, England, Gary Oldman is known for films like Sid and Nancy, The Dark Knight, and the Harry Potter series. Oldman has been acting since he was a child and made his United States breakthrough in 1991. In fact, he has lived in the United States for such a long time that he had to hire voice coach in order to keep and relearn his British accent. Oldman needed his full-fledged British accent—as opposed to the American one he had acquired—for his role as an intelligence officer in Tinker Tailor Spy Soldier in 2011. As such, he invested in a dialect tutor to make sure his accent remained as authentic as the day he left England.
