Michael Jackson was filming a Pepsi commercial in front of hundreds of fans in 1983, when his hair caught on fire. It was the result of failed pyrotechnics. Jackson, unaware that his hair was burning, continued to dance, until someone ran on stage and put out the fire. In the weeks that followed, he had horrible migraines until the burns finally healed. Many thought that Michael Jackson would sue Pepsi as a result of the trauma he endured, but he had a much different idea. He settled out of court with them, and used the money to build a burn center at the medical center in Culver City, California, he was treated at. The Michael Jackson Burn Center at Brotman Medical Center remained open for several years, until it was shut down as a result of decreased funding from the government.
