Up until relatively recently, there was a process in China whereby the dead would be married. This was all to do with the fear in Chinese culture of the dead being lonely in the afterlife, so they figured that the only way in which this could be counteracted was by going ahead and marrying the dead souls. This was seen as making sure that the dead were quite content, and presumably they would then leave us alone in this world.
However, even though the practice had been going on for generations, the Chinese government decided that it was a waste of time and made it illegal to conduct this service. Even though this is the case, you just know that there will be a number of places where the ritual still occurs because, do you want to take the risk of the dead being unhappy with you?
