When the World Trade Center was being rebuilt in the early 2010s, Subway decided it was the perfect location for a new Subway shop. This shop was a mobile shop that moved up each story as the construction continued along. It was built because workers generally had a thirty-minute lunch break, but it took them longer than that entire break just to wait for the construction elevators to take them to ground level. The temporary Subway location— which lasted for around two years—looked as if it were hanging without a sound structure. Several other businesses were considered for the operation, but many of them were unable to make it work with the unique circumstances, or simply uncomfortable doing so. The Subway store served more than just Subway foods, with typical New York lunch fare making its way onto the menu.
