Bono is known around the world, but he grew up in Ireland as Paul Hewson. His stage name came about when he was hanging on the streets with friends as a teenager. They called him “Bono Vox” after a local hearing aid store, and it was shortened to Bono. It stuck with him from then on. Known as the lead singer of U2, Bono has accomplished much more than simply recording albums, writing music, and touring. He is the only person to have been nominated for an Oscar, a Grammy, a Golden Globe, and a Nobel Peace Prize, having won 22 Grammys with U2. More than that, he has appeared in multiple films, co-written feature films, and made a name for himself as one of the most philanthropic celebrities in Hollywood. However, don’t ask Bono about his band name; it turns out that he isn’t actually fond of the name U2. The band was initially called Feedback, but their album sleeve designer suggested U2.
