Schools have been known to suspend students for a wide range of reasons, but there are times when the reason is just extremely bizarre to such an extent that nothing at all makes sense. If you want the perfect example of how all of this can work then you just need to look at what happened in the case of a 16-year-old student in Omaha, Nebraska.

The 16-year-old called Trevor Richards was suspended from his school because, he had put forward himself as a nomination for a particular award at his school. At first this does not sound too strange until you come to grips with the award and the way in which he was guaranteed to win it.

Trevor was actually born in South Africa, and he had put forward a category and award for the most ‘Distinguished African-American Student of the Year’ which does sound as if it would be a perfectly fair award. However, he was the only student in the school who had ever lived in Africa and, therefore, was the only person who could ever have a hope of winning the award.

It turns out that the school decided that Trevor was being rather sarcastic and was trying to be cheeky in what he was doing, and they hated it. As a result, they then decided to go ahead and suspend him which does appear to be a bit harsh.
