Just to show how crazy the art world can be, you only have to look at an example from Sweden in the 1960’s. Back in 1964, a series of paintings were put on display that were claimed to come from a previously unknown French artist who went by the name, Pierre Brasau. The reaction that the paintings received was astonishing.
Critic after critic exploded with joy at the paintings and there was a real belief that he would take the art world by storm. The truth behind the paintings actually showed just how crazy this entire industry is.
The reason why it showed it is crazy, is simply because it was not a French artist that painted them, but actually a chimpanzee. Yep, they were not even painted by a human hand, and yet the work was being described as absolute artistry by those that had no idea who was actually behind the paintings.
