People are used to birds migrating for the winter as they move to warmer climates in order to survive, but the Monarch butterfly is able to do things just as well as the average bird.

For butterflies in the United States, they are known to migrate to Mexico for the winter, with the average distance covered being in the region of 2,500 miles. Not only that, but it has been shown that when they get to their destination, the Monarch butterfly also enjoys hibernating, but they can only really do so when they are in the same tree as they were the year before.

In other words, if you are ever told that only birds migrate, then you can let people know about this species of butterfly, as it is the only insect that does this. Others just try and get through winter or end up dying as a result of their reluctance to migrate, even if it is just for a few months of the year.
