There is something distinctly Chinese about the idea of fortune cookies, but there is a problem, and it is quite a big one. The problem is that the fortune cookie concept is not even Chinese in origin. Instead, it seems that it was an American that was able to come up with the idea almost a century ago, and it has gone from strength to strength since then.

The man in question went by the name of Charles Jung, and back in 1918, he decided to create the fortune cookie just to add some fun to an evening. People loved getting those sayings appearing in their food, so the idea was quick to take off. Over the decades, the concept of the fortune cookie spread high and wide throughout the country, with it eventually becoming the phenomenon that we know today.
