Have you ever used the ‘I’m feeling lucky’ option when you navigate to the Google search page? If so, then you will be familiar with the way in which you just never know what is going to appear on your screen, but there is something behind the technology that means it is not regarded as being a lucky option for Google.

It turns out that having this feature on their search engine actually costs Google in the region of $110 million per year. The reason? Using this option means that you bypass the keyword specific advertising which is where Google makes its money.

However, you would like to think that as Google makes so much money that this is just a drop in the ocean for them and they certainly do not have any intention of cutting it from their search page.
