Today, movies like Scream and The Shining top all the lists of the scariest movies of all time. Back in the 1940s, there was another movie that made waves as a scary movie. Bambi came out in 1942, and, as it was following popular Disney movies like Pinocchio, Dumbo, and Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, parents were excited to take their kids to see it. However, children at the theaters were traumatized by the death of Bambi’s mother, and the danger that remained in the forest throughout the film scared many of them. To this day, it’s listed amongst the scariest Disney movies, and the scene of Bambi’s mother’s death is considered one of the most tragic moments in animated movie history. An animated flick about a fawn is a far cry from today’s definition of a “scary movie”, but it was traumatic for viewers nonetheless.
