Beer has been around for thousands of years, but when do you think the first advertisement for it appeared in society? Well, you might be surprised to hear that we have to go back in time by approximately 6000 years to get our answer.

For this, we need to head to ancient Mesopotamia, which is in the region that we now refer to as Iraq and other aspects of the Middle East. There, archaeologists discovered a stone tablet with inscriptions written on it that would ultimately lead to the discovery of the oldest advertisement.

On that stone tablet there read an inscription that said ‘Drink Elba, the beer with the heart of a lion.’ which is a pretty cool advertisement even by the standards today. Of course, we do not know how popular it was or what impact it had, or even how many people would have been able to read it. However, just the mere fact that people were trying to market beer such a long time ago is an astonishing fact all on its own.
