You would think that the Queen of England has more than enough things to own, from priceless works of art to countless palaces, as well as vast sums of money. However, it seems that even this is not enough because of a relatively unknown law that appears to want to give her even more than the Queen herself had bargained for.

The law is focused on just one type of animal, well a bird, to be precise. You see, according to UK law, the Queen owns every single unmarked mute swan that is in open water throughout the country. Quite what she is expected to do with all of those swans is open to interpretation, as is the very reason as to why this law should exist in the first place.

It’s hardly going to be the case that she is able to look after them, as we are talking about wild birds, but it does then mean that as they are the property of the crown, they do have a certain amount of legal protection. So, if you are a swan, then that is probably a good thing—even though us humans are unable to make sense of it.
