You have probably heard of the phrase ‘as blind as a bat’ and even though it is true for most species of bat, it is not something that is universal. Instead, people are surprised to discover that one of the more common species of bat is actually not blind at all.

For this, we are talking about the fruit bat, and while other bats use echolocation in order to find their way around, that does not apply in this instance. Instead, what we have is a bat that actually uses its sense of sight as well as smell to make sure that they can navigate without any problems.

The very idea of a bat that can see goes against pretty much everything that we have ever believed about this kind of animal, but at least the next time somebody tells you that you are as blind as a bat, you can tell them you are a fruit bat instead.
