In 2016, Walter Cavanagh inadvertently set a world record. Guinness World Record bestowed the title of “Mr. Plastic Fantastic” on Cavanagh as the person in the world with the most credit cards to his name. Cavanagh, who was 73 years old at the time of his achievement, has a whopping 1,497 credit cards to his name, which totals a $1.7 million combined credit limit. He says that he does not carry all credit cards on him at all times, and he mainly uses one card, which he pays off each month. Cavanagh’s credit score has not taken a hit due to the massive number of credit cards, as he says his credit score is nearly perfect. The credit cards in Cavanagh’s name vary greatly in spending limits, from just $50 upward. He started collecting credit cards as a bet with a friend. His 1,497 credit cards are a far cry from the national average of two credit cards per person.
