When it comes to things that appear in movies or TV shows that are actually pretty cool, then flicking a cigarette onto a trail of gasoline in order to ignite it, and then eventually blow something up, must be one of the best things to have ever appeared.

However, it seems that there is a slight problem with this entire thing, and the problem is quite simply that it does not work like that.

Even though it sounds as if it would be plausible, scientists set out to conduct an experiment to see if it could be done. They attempted to light the gasoline by this method 2000 times, and it turns out that they never managed to achieve it even once.

So, the next time you see it in a movie, just be the wise one that points out that it is completely wrong.
