The sloth never comes across as being the luckiest animal in the world, and that impression is only going to get worse when you read about these few facts connected to one of the slowest animals in the world today.

The sloth is so slow and lazy that it leads to all kinds of issues and problems that it then has to face. The problem is that they do tend to live in conditions that are quite moist and humid, and all of that dampness and their lack of movement is only going to lead to various health concerns that have to be addressed.

This dampness has been known to lead to a variety of moss and plants to start growing in the hair on the body of the sloth as they are not active enough to really shake those things off. This moss can grow and develop until it covers vast areas of the arms of the sloth. You also have to factor into the equation the fact that their eyesight is also very, very poor.

What this all leads to is that it is not unknown for a sloth to reach out for what it believes to be a branch on a tree only to discover that it is trying to reach out for its own arm. This then leads to them falling to the ground and unfortunately some sloths have died as a direct result.

In other words, if only they moved faster than none of this would be an issue for them.
