There tends to be something inherently fascinating about serial killers, but do you know who the first American serial killer was reported to have been? Well, the answer, according to researchers, appears to have been a certain Dr. H.H. Holmes, who apparently confessed to committing a total of 27 murders back in the 1890s.

For Holmes, there seems to have been no sense of remorse for his killings, because to him it was just something that he was able to do, and he never gave it much thought. In fact, he once said that killing was just something that he did, just as a poet could not help themselves when it came to writing poetry.

Of course, he was not the worst serial killer to have ever emerged from the United States, but you have to admit that starting off with a guy that killed 27 people is pretty impressive.
