When most people think of popular dating sites, they think of pages and apps like Tinder, OKCupid, and Plenty of Fish. But would you believe that YouTube, the king of internet videos, was originally created to be a dating website?!

The original plan was to have interested singles post a video introducing themselves and explaining what they were looking for in a date or significant other. However, when five days passed without a single video being uploaded, the co-founders, Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim, decided to open up the site to any video. They knew they had unique technology that gave anyone and everyone the ability to upload videos, so they wanted to get it out there any way they could.

It worked out in their favor: they sold YouTube to Google for $1.6 billion and have an average of one billion visitors each month!
